My Trip to Arizona

Last year I was on a competition team. I was competing in clogging. The clogging competition team goes all over the US. The first place we went to compete was Buffalo, Wyoming. After that competition my family and I went to Yellow Stone National Park. It was really fun.

The next competition we went to was in Scottsdale, Arizona. The plane ride was a little bumpy but not that bad. Only my mom, little sister, and I went. As soon as we got off the plane a wave of heat blew through us.

After we got through the airport, we got on a taxi and went to our hotel. Once we went inside it felt really cold. I got goose bumps! We went to the front desk and they gave each of us a warm chocolate chip cookie. While my mom got all of the room information, my sister and I checked out the hotel. It looked pretty big and I thought I would love the hotel so much. They had cacti and palm trees. It was a lot different than what we were used to.

When we were ready, we headed to our room. We didn’t see any room doors inside. All that we saw was a door leading outside. All of the rooms were out side in the blazing heat! The worst part was that my mom got us a room on the second floor so that meant that we had to climb up stairs in 115ยบ weather just to get to our room.

When we finally got to our room, we settled in and did a whole bunch of nothing. When it was time for me to go and practice, we went back to the lobby and to the hallway where I was supposed to practice. Then when the practice was over we went back to our room and got ready for the competition.

The competition was fun but some of the dance teachers were standing behind the judges telling the dancers what to do and it got really annoying. Some of the other dancers were in both amateur and master group and it was really unfair.

After a while, we finally got used to the heat and we were walking outside quite a bit. They had two really big pools but they were both outside and on our way back to our room after swimming we would burn our feet on the ground. The pools had little waterfalls on the back. The middle of the pool was deeper then the edges so it was easy to get around. On one of the nights we had stayed until 10 pm it was still really warm outside!

On the second day we were there we had a dust storm it wasn’t very bad but the sky was dark yellow and dust was flying every where. That was the day we went to the Sugar Bowl. They had a whole bunch of arcade games and we bought some tokens and played with our friends. That night my mom woke up around midnight and saw that it was 100 degrees outside!

The last day we were staying we had a very bad thunder storm. All of the palm trees were swaying so much that I thought that they would break. The thunder storm was so bad that we had to leave the pool really early. There was so much lightning the sky lit up. It was really scary.

There was a cactus garden right outside our hotel door. The cacti there were huge! The cacti there were taller than us on the second floor. I named 4 of the cacti. I named them Bob, Fred, Princess, and Dude. There was a tree there called the cactus tree. It was very interesting, its trunk and branches were green and the leaves were green too.

This one is Bob

When it was time to leave my little sister and I were really sad. We wanted to stay longer. The plane ride home was boring. When we went outside, we all had goose bumps and were cold. I started thinking that the next competition I have will be in Nashville, Tennessee and I couldn’t wait.
